Does life end in death or retirement?
They are slow if they are not holding onto the shopping cart. They're saving for funerals and hiding money under mattresses. They believe hoaxes. And they forward them. They buy pots from door-to-door sellers, and then they don't cook in them, so as not to ruin them. They live in isolation and criticize how others live from behind the curtains. They go to the doctor even though they are fine. They vote for the populists who raised their pensions. They live off our taxes. They keep complaining. And they have always just baked. Grandmas and Grandpas. Pensioners. Retirees. Old-timers. Crones and codgers. Fossils. Old farts.
An amateur ensemble for seniors called Studio 60+, founded in January 2023 at the Goose on a String Theatre, enables its members to meet a number of creative figures associated with this theatre. The themes of the Goose on a String Theatre, in turn, can be newly enriched by the perspective of those who are often neglected.
The members of Studio 60+ will end their first year of work with an original production, in which they will jointly create a model of the average senior. Which then splits into diverse and unique individuals. People forced to react to a frantically changing society. Grandmas. Grandpas. Old-timers. Fossils. Old farts. How do the prejudices of others and our own affect our lives? Is it still suitable to get on stage at this age? And what will Devotees listen to when retired? A brass band, too?!
Tereza Volánková (1988) is a graduate of KALD DAMU in Jiří Havelka's class, where during her studies she necessarily had to meet authorship and direction. Through the generational authors' ensemble 11:55, hosting at the Drama Studio in Ústí nad Labem, and directing various projects, she returned as an actress to the Goose on a String Theatre, which was her initial impetus to pursue theatre.
Marie Klemensová (born 1995) is a graduate of the Theatre and Education program at JAMU She led the Children's Studio at the Puppet Theatre Ostrava, collaborated with the Petr Bezruč Theatre, the Polárka Theatre, and the Theatre World Brno festival. Currently, she is a lecturer at the Goose on a String Theatre and leads the senior Studio 60+.
