Brno. The city of functionalist architecture. The city of housing scandals. The city of innumerable hostels. Do you want to trade with poverty? Brno is your city. Do you want to face a housing business? There is always some civic movement in Brno. Brno as a space for occupation. Housing First? Brno First!
Another reality suddenly breaks into the intimacy of a family apartment. A fight for the fate of city apartments and their tenants unexpectedly invades the rink, where fights usually take place over getting up, eating breakfast and brushing teeth. Realities mix, fears grow, ghosts float through shared spaces, and whether the son or the representative spilled coffee on the holiday tablecloth remains a mystery.
This devised theatre production by Petr Erbes and Boris Jedinák is based on questions to which people with different life experiences find different answers: How do we define dignity? How about comfort? What impact does housing have on our identity and perception of the city that has become our home? We can imagine a home worse than ours and the home of our dreams. But dare we say, how others should live? What does an exemplary apartment for a family of four look like? And from the position of what reality do we actually decide on the housing of others? Housing is certainly not simple. But does it have to be horror?
Director-dramaturgical duo Petr Erbes (1991) and Boris Jedinák (1995) belongs to a group of young talented creators and graduates of the Department of Alternative and Puppet Theatre DAMU associated in the artistic group 8lidí. In their original productions, often based on real stories or events, they emphasize an open and borderline production form, active involvement of the audience and, above all, themes resonating with the current social situation. Real(i)ty is, after Meeting of Plotters, the second author's production created by them for Husa na provázku.
