Peter Shaffer
directed by Vladimír Morávek
a homage to Miloš Forman
The first is said to be a genius. The second is considered the patron saint of mediocrity. The first covets eternity; the second seeks approval from the era whose conventions he honours. A thankless age. The magnetic forces of fate attract one to the other. Their clash at the court of Joseph II is unavoidable and destructive. How much light can our eyes bear? And what if this light should awaken our inner darkness?
A requiem for the silenced voice of God. The timeless story of the meeting of two composers from the same century – Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri – as our guest actors, the father and son Miroslav and Martin Donutil, meet on stage at the Goose on a String Theatre.
This production is dedicated to the Czech director Miloš Forman, who allowed its creative team to work with motifs from his film, which won eight Oscars.
