Dora Kaprálová
conquest of the hometown
Welcome to the party you sometimes have with yourself. Welcome to the inner landscape of one observant woman. Step into the depths, delve into molehills, discover the heart of the matter, sniff in bewilderment… or just let yourself be carried away.
Kamila Polívková's production plays out the texts of Brno native, author and documentary filmmaker Dora Kaprálova, who has lived in Berlin since 2008 and is happy to move especially between cities starting with B. This creates a scenic reflection on the possibility of returning to one's hometown and the need to leave it, at least temporarily. Because proximity and distance are relative in today's world. Sometimes we levitate between spaces, and we don't even know it. We're everywhere, and we're nowhere. We are spread out in flight over the whole of Central Europe — who are we here and who are we there?
"Maybe we will start living in Brno again after death / we will find a nice apartment / we will quietly dream there / about how to live elsewhere," writes Dora Kaprálová. And it draws our attention to the importance of interpersonal relationships, the fragility of ties and the possibility to penetrate the political and social boundaries, and the boundaries of social taboos thanks to the interest in one's surroundings.
